Some places earn their keep over decades. This lakefront cabin on Kalamalka Lake has been in the family for fifty years — summers stacked on summers, memories built into every wall. When the time came to update it, the instinct to preserve what made it special was exactly right. The goal wasn't to reimagine the cabin. It was to give it another fifty years.

The original form was kept intact. What changed was everything inside it. Walls came out wherever possible, opening the interior from the dark and cosy layout of the original into something bright, airy, and oriented toward the lake that was always the reason to be there. The views of Kalamalka's famously vivid blue-green water were expanded at every opportunity — more glass, better sightlines, the lake present in every room.

The living space then spills down to the beach itself. A bar and sleeping cabana were added at the water's edge, extending the home's hospitality all the way to the shoreline and giving overflow guests a place of their own that feels like a reward rather than an afterthought.

The original lake cabin character was honoured throughout — the warmth, the informality, the sense that this is a place for bare feet and long evenings. Just more of it, and better.

Lake living at its best.
