Not every project starts with a desire to move. Sometimes the bones are good, the neighbourhood is right, and the view — in this case a sweeping western outlook across the city, the ocean, and the evening sky — is simply too good to leave behind. For a mature couple and their teenage daughter, the answer wasn't a new address. It was a better version of the one they already had.

The renovation worked with the existing structure and honoured the local post and beam tradition — a style that has defined the best of West Coast residential architecture for decades and ages beautifully when treated with respect. Rather than erase what was there, the design refined and opened it, reorienting the home around the views and the outdoor living that a western exposure in North Vancouver makes possible.

The pool and outdoor spaces become the heart of the home in the warmer months, with the interior and exterior kept as connected as the West Coast modern style demands. A separate studio overlooking both the pool and the view serves as a home office — private enough to work in, positioned well enough that stepping away from the desk feels like a reward.

A home that was already good, made into something the family will never want to leave.
